Magadan's Legendary Epidemiologist Celebrates 85 Years of Life-Saving Work

Nattela Tkavadze, a respected epidemiologist in Magadan Region, marked her 85th birthday on May 8. Known for her decades of service, she has shaped healthcare in the area while earning top professional honours. Colleagues and officials gathered to celebrate her contributions. Born in Novorossiysk in 1941, Tkavadze later graduated from Rostov State Medical University. She went on to dedicate over 50 years to Magadan’s healthcare system, specialising in epidemiology. Today, she heads a department at the Magadan Regional Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology.

Her career has been recognised with awards like Excellence in Healthcare, Veteran of Labor, and Honored Worker of Russia’s State Sanitary and Epidemiological Service. Beyond her clinical work, she has guided countless young physicians, ensuring the region’s medical future.

At the celebration, Dmitry Shapovalov, a Kolyma Regional Parliament member, presented her with a commemorative address and a gift from the Magadan Oblast Duma. Dmitry Borovikov, chief physician of the regional hygiene centre, also extended his birthday wishes. Tkavadze’s 85th birthday highlights her lasting impact on Magadan’s medical field. Her leadership, mentorship, and expertise continue to influence public health in the region. The tributes reflect her status as a cornerstone of local healthcare.
