Magadan's School No. 20 celebrates graduates with tradition and civic pride

Magadan has begun its season of final school bell ceremonies, marking the end of another academic year. Last Saturday, graduates of School No. 20 in the Sokol district gathered to celebrate their achievements in a special event attended by local officials and teachers. The ceremony at School No. 20 was attended by Magadan Mayor Larisa Polikanova, who personally greeted the students and staff. Among the honoured guests was Svetlana Smotrova, the school’s organising teacher, who was awarded the 'For Assistance to the Front' medal for her contributions.

The school has a long history of academic excellence, producing over 100 gold and silver medalists in its more than 60 years. Students regularly take part in competitions and olympiads, consistently achieving strong results. Beyond academics, the school fosters community engagement through volunteer groups like 'Kind Magicians' and 'The Non-Purple Generation', which support soldiers and local hospitals. This year, the school expanded its efforts by opening a workshop dedicated to weaving camouflage nets. Students and staff worked together to produce 16 nets for defenders. In 2023, the institution also launched a primary branch of the 'Movement of the Firsts', a youth organisation aimed at leadership and civic participation. Festive events are now underway across Magadan, with celebrations taking place in schools and concert halls throughout the region.

The final bell ceremonies mark both an end and a new beginning for Magadan’s students. With a tradition of academic success and community involvement, School No. 20 continues to prepare its graduates for future challenges. The events will run until all schools in the region have honoured their latest classes.
