Maharashtra Govt To Launch 27 New Cancer Day-Care Units To Expand Affordable Treatment Access

Maharashtra rolls out 27 new cancer care units to ease treatment delays

The Maharashtra government is expanding cancer care across the state with 27 new day-care treatment units. These facilities will bring essential services closer to patients in their local districts. Officials have also signalled plans to introduce advanced detection methods in the near future. Maharashtra currently runs nine day-care cancer centres offering chemotherapy and other treatments. With patient numbers rising steadily, the government has now approved 27 additional units to ease pressure on existing facilities.

The state is also strengthening its Mahatma Phule Jan Arogya Yojana cancer package to include more advanced care options. Early detection remains a priority, with ongoing screening drives and HPV vaccinations for girls aged 14 to 15. During a recent meeting, experts from a South Korean organisation demonstrated 'liquid biopsy' technology. This method promises earlier and more accurate cancer detection. The government is now exploring its adoption in Maharashtra’s healthcare system.

The 27 new units will widen access to chemotherapy and other treatments across districts. If implemented, liquid biopsy technology could further improve early diagnosis rates. These steps aim to reduce delays in care and support more patients statewide.
