Malaysia maintains RM300 Budi Diesel aid amid rising global fuel costs

The Malaysian government has confirmed it will keep the Budi Diesel aid at RM300 per month in April. This move aims to shield diesel users from rising global fuel costs while maintaining financial support for eligible recipients.

The decision ensures continued relief for those affected by fluctuating energy prices, with additional measures in place to prevent misuse of the scheme. Since its introduction in May 2024, the Budi Diesel programme has distributed RM1.12 billion in cash assistance. Around 2.5 million households and individuals have benefited from monthly payments, managed by the Malaysian Home Ministry.

To maintain stability, the government will retain the interim RM100 top-up, bringing total support to RM300 for individuals and those under the Budi Agri-Commodity scheme. The upcoming April disbursement, budgeted at RM102 million, will reach approximately 340,000 recipients starting 8 April.

Enforcement has been tightened to stop abuse and ensure subsidies reach the right people. Authorities will also monitor market trends closely, ready to act if energy supply stability is threatened. Applications for Budi Diesel remain open year-round through the official website.

The programme has helped ease living costs for targeted groups while keeping fiscal discipline intact. Longer-term plans are under review to ensure the subsidy system stays sustainable and transparent beyond its current March 2026 timeline. The Budi Diesel aid will continue at RM300 per month, providing consistent support against rising fuel prices. With stricter enforcement and ongoing market checks, the government aims to balance relief for citizens with responsible budget management.

Further adjustments may follow if energy conditions shift, ensuring the programme adapts to future challenges.
