Mexico City Metro Line 5 resumes full service after heatwave disruption

Mexico City Metro’s Line 5 has fully resumed service after a disruption caused by extreme heat. The issue forced a partial suspension between Politécnico and Oceanía earlier in the day. Authorities deployed extra support to help affected passengers during the outage. The problem began when high temperatures on Thursday caused certain track components to expand. This led to a temporary service reduction, limiting trains to the section between Politécnico and Oceanía. To ease the impact, the Passenger Transport Network provided free shuttles between Oceanía and Pantitlán.

Despite these measures, heavy passenger numbers during peak hours created mobility challenges. In response, the Citizens’ Security Secretariat sent additional officers to assist with transfers and keep journeys moving smoothly. Adrián Rubalcava, director general of the Mexico City Metro, later confirmed that full service had been restored. Trains now operate along the entire Line 5 route, from Politécnico to Pantitlán. Rubalcava thanked maintenance crews for their quick work in fixing the issue and apologised to passengers for the inconvenience caused.

Line 5 is now running as usual, with no further restrictions in place. The incident highlighted the impact of extreme weather on metro infrastructure. Free shuttle services and extra personnel were key in managing the disruption while repairs took place.
