Mexico City police arrest four after deadly shooting and drug seizure
Mexico City police have arrested four men in Iztapalapa borough after finding them in possession of suspected narcotics. The detentions followed a shooting in the Santa Cruz Meyehualco neighbourhood that left two people dead on 5 March. Officers acted after spotting the group exchanging packages on motorcycles.
The arrests took place on Camino al Progreso and Camino a San Pablo streets. Police observed four individuals on two motorcycles passing items between them. A subsequent search uncovered 60 small plastic bags containing a green, dry herb believed to be marijuana, along with three mobile phones.
The detained men, aged 20, 22, 26, and 37, were handed over to the public prosecutor. The oldest suspect had previously faced charges in 2020 for negligent injury.
The operation came as part of an ongoing investigation into a fatal shooting in Santa Cruz Meyehualco earlier this month. Authorities, supported by the East Command and Control Center, had intensified patrols in the area following the incident.
The four suspects now face further legal proceedings. Police continue to investigate their possible connection to the March shooting. The seized substances will undergo testing to confirm their nature.
