Mexico City's El Insurgente Railway Now Fully Operational to Toluca

Mexico City's new Interurbanbahn El Insurgente is now fully operational, connecting Mexico City and Toluca. The final stretch between Santa Fe and Observatorio opened recently, completing the 58-kilometre railway line. President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo has encouraged residents to use the service for faster travel between the two cities.

The train, nicknamed El Insurgente, features seven stations along its route: Zinacantepec, Toluca Centro, Metepec, Lerma, Santa Fe, Álvaro Obregón, and Observatorio. No further infrastructure projects have been announced beyond the completion of this line.

Observatorio station, a key stop in Mexico City, underwent extensive restoration. The work began under Sheinbaum's administration, continued with Martí Batres, and was finalised by Clara Brugada. Sheinbaum later highlighted the station's modernisation as a significant improvement for commuters.

With the full route now open, the train offers a direct link between Toluca and the capital. Authorities have emphasised its role in reducing travel times and easing congestion on existing roads.

The Interurbanbahn El Insurgente is now ready for public use, with all stations operational. The project marks the completion of a long-planned railway connection between Mexico City and Toluca. Officials have not announced any additional infrastructure expansions at this time.
