Michoacán's bold transport upgrade: Cable cars and Morebús launch soon

Michoacán is expanding its public transport with two major projects. A new cable car system in Uruapan opened on April 18, costing 3.2 billion pesos. Meanwhile, Morelia’s own cable car is set to launch on September 30, with construction nearing completion at 68%. The Uruapan cable car, fully funded by state resources, will serve 46,000 passengers daily. No external debt was used for the project, which aims to improve urban mobility in the region.

In Morelia, the cable car system has cost nearly 3 billion pesos. The first four of seven planned stations will open in September, cutting travel time between the city’s north and south to just 15 minutes. The remaining stations are expected to be finished between December 2026 and January 2027. A third transport project, the Morebús system, will also begin construction on May 12. The first phase requires an investment of 2.9 billion pesos, further boosting Michoacán’s infrastructure upgrades.

The new cable cars in Uruapan and Morelia will increase transport options for thousands of daily commuters. Both systems, along with the upcoming Morebús project, mark a significant expansion of Michoacán’s public transport network.
