Moscow's fountains awaken after winter with citywide restoration push

Moscow has started preparing its fountains for the upcoming season after the winter break. Cleaning work is now in progress on Pushkin Square and in Novopushkinsky Garden. The city aims to restore over 2,000 public spaces, including fountains, by the end of April.

The first fountain on Pushkin Square features a classical design with a granite basin and three cast-iron bowls. Nearby, the second fountain in Novopushkinsky Garden has an elliptical shape, with water jets arranged in a circular pattern. Both are fitted with decorative lighting for evening displays.

A team of three workers will scrub the structures using brushes, detergent, and high-pressure equipment. A street-washing truck will assist in removing winter grime. Earlier, crews completed similar cleaning in the Aquarium Garden on 31 March. Before restarting the fountains, city services will check underground drainage, hydraulics, and pump systems. The official fountain season in Moscow begins in late April.

The restoration effort covers multiple fountains across the city, ensuring they operate smoothly for the warmer months. Inspections and cleaning will continue until all systems meet the required standards for public use.
