Moscow's online shopping boom hits $210 billion in 2025 sales

Moscow's online shopping sector has grown sharply in 2025, with sales hitting 19 trillion rubles (around $210 billion). This marks a 14% rise from the previous year. The city's e-commerce share now accounts for nearly a quarter of all retail trade—up from 22% in 2024.

The expansion of online retail in Moscow reflects a broader national trend. Russia's e-commerce market has surged more than five times since 2019, climbing from 2 trillion to 11.5 trillion rubles. Yet Moscow remains the clear leader in digital sales, with no comparable data available for other major cities like St. Petersburg or Novosibirsk.

Food dominates the capital's online market, making up 28% of total sales. In 2025, this sector alone generated 531 billion rubles ($5.9 billion). Furniture and home goods follow at 16%, while clothing and footwear take 13% of the market. The steady growth in online spending highlights shifting consumer habits. More residents now rely on digital platforms for daily purchases, from groceries to household essentials. This trend has solidified e-commerce as a key part of Moscow's retail landscape.

Moscow's online retail turnover now stands at 19 trillion rubles, with food, furniture, and fashion leading the way. The sector's rapid growth since 2019 shows no signs of slowing, reinforcing its role in the city's economy. For now, the capital remains the focal point of Russia's expanding digital marketplace.
