Munich's June rail works to disrupt key routes and commuter travel
Major rail works in early June will cause widespread disruptions for passengers across Munich and beyond. The construction will affect key routes, including the city’s core line and the Werdenfels connection to Garmisch-Partenkirchen. From June 1 to 15, the Werdenfels line between Munich and Garmisch-Partenkirchen will see no service on certain sections. During the first week, only the S8 will operate, while the S6 takes over in the second week. Replacement buses will cover gaps between Pasing and Harthaus, as well as between Pasing and Gauting.
Munich’s core route (Stammstrecke) will also face restrictions from June 12 to 15. Only the S1, S2, S3, and S5 lines will run, but with partial disruptions. The S2 will provide replacement services between Ostbahnhof and Markt Schwaben, while all trains between Trudering and Ostbahnhof will be cancelled. On June 20 and 21, just the S2 and S8 will operate normally on the core route. The S1 will terminate at Hauptbahnhof, and other lines will start or end earlier than usual. Meanwhile, the S8 and S6 will be completely suspended on weekends throughout the construction period. Passengers are urged to check their journeys via DB’s online timetable before travelling to avoid delays or missed connections.
The works will impact thousands of daily commuters and long-distance travellers. Alternative transport, including replacement buses, will be in place, but delays are expected. The disruptions are scheduled to end after June 21.
