Authorities in Naucalpan have reinstalled concrete planters along 20 de Noviembre Street in San Mateo Nopala. The move aims to block heavy truck traffic after a fatal accident claimed the life of a 58-year-old woman in March.

On March 9, María del Refugio died when a garbage truck lost its brakes and crashed into a pedestrian walkway. She was rushed to IMSS Hospital in Lomas Verdes but did not survive the journey. Her remains were later laid to rest in the local cemetery after a funeral at San Mateo Apostol and Evangelist Parish, attended by family, neighbours, and friends.

Residents had long warned municipal officials about the dangers of heavy vehicles passing through the area. Multiple accidents involving various vehicles had occurred before, though exact figures remain undocumented. In response to the latest tragedy, authorities have now taken action to restrict truck access. The newly placed concrete planters serve as a physical barrier to prevent large vehicles from entering the street. The measure follows repeated calls from locals to improve safety and mobility in the neighbourhood.

The reinstallation of the planters marks a direct response to the fatal crash that killed María del Refugio. The barriers are intended to stop heavy trucks from using the street, reducing the risk of similar incidents. Residents will continue monitoring the situation to ensure the changes remain effective.
