New AI-powered camera system slashes false car damage claims in workshops

A new automated camera system, developed by CheckSnap GmbH, is helping workshops and dealerships avoid false damage claims. The technology, launched in 2024, simplifies vehicle documentation during intake and release. The system captures eight photos of each vehicle—four in high resolution and four in 4K wide-angle—from fixed positions. These images are automatically saved, timestamped, and linked to the correct vehicle using built-in licence plate recognition. The process requires no complex IT setup, and the cameras can be placed flexibly around the workshop.

Designed by Christian Uthoff, managing director of Uthoff KLS GmbH, the system was co-founded by Sonja Uthoff and Thomas Frömel. Its key benefits include reliable documentation, faster claims processing, and improved quality control. Workshops also gain transparent workflows, reducing disputes over pre-existing damage.

The standard package costs €14,990 and includes eight cameras, a year of software updates, a support hotline, and cloud backup. Customers can extend service coverage for up to three years or purchase additional accessories separately.

The CheckSnap system aims to cut down on disputes while speeding up vehicle inspections. By automating documentation, workshops can focus more on repairs and customer service. The technology is now available to independent garages, dealerships, and Kfz businesses across Germany.
