They are accused of fraud committed as part of an organized criminal group.

This was announced by Irina Volk, the official spokesperson for Russia's Interior Ministry.

According to her, the illegal activities were carried out under the guise of an organization with offices in more than 10 Russian cities, including Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod.

Forty-one individuals have been recognized as victims, with total damages exceeding 5 million rubles. During the pre-trial proceedings, the defendants voluntarily reimbursed over 1.3 million rubles.

The criminal case, along with the approved indictment, has now been forwarded to Nizhny Novgorod's Sovetskiy District Court for trial on the merits.

Earlier reports indicated that losses suffered by Nizhny Novgorod residents at the hands of IT scammers since the start of 2026 have already surpassed 600 million rubles.

As reported by an NTA-Privolzhye correspondent, a press conference held at the Nizhny Novgorod Innovation Center on March 31 addressed measures to combat IT-enabled crimes and strategies for preventing such offenses.

In 2025, the bulk of IT-related crimes involved theft and fraud, with over 8,200 cases recorded. Around 1,000 were solved, leading to more than 600 individuals facing criminal charges. Residents of Nizhny Novgorod transferred over 3.5 billion rubles to scammers that year.

In 2026, authorities have already documented 1,517 IT-related crimes, including more than 800 cases of remote theft and fraud. Roughly 100 cases have been solved, with over 80 individuals charged.

The financial toll remains staggering: losses in the first few months of 2026 alone have already exceeded 600 million rubles.
