More than 307,000 residents of Nizhny Novgorod Region have completed mandatory health screenings since January 2026. The results highlight widespread risk factors, with poor diet, inactivity, and smoking among the most common issues. The checkups revealed that 43.9% of those examined had unhealthy eating habits, making it the leading risk factor. Another 41.9% were physically inactive, while 26% reported smoking. Weight problems were also common, with 32.4% classified as overweight.
High cholesterol affected 30.3% of patients, and 8.5% showed elevated blood sugar levels. A further 18.6% were identified as having a high risk of cardiovascular disease. Among the diagnosed conditions, cardiovascular diseases, respiratory illnesses, diabetes, and cancer were the most frequent. Chronic illnesses were detected in 9,800 individuals during the screenings.
The findings provide a clear picture of the region’s health challenges. Poor diet, lack of exercise, and smoking remain key concerns, alongside high rates of cholesterol and blood sugar issues. Authorities now have detailed data to guide public health measures.
