Construction work on the Nürnberg-Regensburg line is progressing - Nürnberg-Regensburg railway line nears completion after major upgrades

Major upgrades on the Nürnberg-Regensburg railway line are progressing as planned. Work began in February 2023 and is set to finish by 10 July. Over 2,000 specialists and 80 large machines are involved daily in the project.

The modernisation focuses on key areas: track construction, overhead line systems, and station improvements. Crews have already renewed more than 60 kilometres of track bed and 15 kilometres of rail. They have also installed 32 new sets of points and erected over 20 overhead line masts, with foundations laid for over 1,000 additional masts.

While the line remains closed, a substitute bus service has replaced train journeys. Early issues with the buses have since been resolved, and passengers can now track replacements in real time via a dedicated website. Adjustments to timetables, such as those on the S3 line to Feucht, have also been made to improve reliability. After six weeks of work, the project remains on schedule. All teams are operating at full capacity to meet the July deadline.

The upgrades will bring renewed infrastructure to the route, including updated tracks and overhead systems. Passengers will return to a modernised line once the work concludes on 10 July 2023. No further details on platform expansions at stations have been provided.
