Portuguese Firm Teams With ESA to Track Arctic Illegal Activity via Satellite

A Portuguese technology firm will help Europe track illegal activity in Arctic and North Atlantic waters. Tekever has partnered with the European Space Agency to develop radar satellite monitoring. The project focuses on stopping unauthorised fishing, mining, and resource exploitation.

The initiative falls under the agency’s Earth observation programme. Its goal is to improve surveillance of northern European waters. Officials hope the system will detect and deter illegal operations more effectively.

Tekever’s radar satellite technology will play a key role in the project. However, the scheme remains in its early stages. A feasibility study is underway and will continue until early next year.

If successful, the new monitoring system could strengthen enforcement in remote ocean regions. The partnership between Tekever and the European Space Agency marks a step toward tighter oversight of Arctic and North Atlantic activities. Final decisions on implementation will follow the study’s completion.
