Russia Launches Its Largest Plastic Recycling Plant Near Moscow

Russia's largest plastic recycling facility, Ecoline-Vtorplast, has begun operations in the Moscow region. The plant marks the country's first fully integrated production cycle for processing plastic waste. With an annual capacity of 120,000 containers, it converts discarded plastic into high-quality granules for new products. The facility processes plastic waste supplied by the nearby Vostok waste complex, which handles 21 different plastic types. After sorting, the material undergoes advanced recycling to produce high-purity secondary granules. These granules meet strict standards, allowing their use in food packaging and other products with 30% to 100% recycled content.

An agreement has already been signed with SIBUR to provide shredded plastic for manufacturing recycled pellets. These pellets will be used in the production of water bottles. The plant also features a closed-loop water treatment system, purifying and reusing water in its operations. Over 41% of the equipment and technology comes from Russian manufacturers, with the remainder sourced from allied nations. The project's total cost reached 11.7 billion rubles, including 2.9 billion rubles in federal funding. Once fully operational, the complex is projected to create up to 200 local jobs. It is also expected to generate 4.5 billion rubles in tax revenue over its first ten years.

The Ecoline-Vtorplast plant strengthens Russia's plastic recycling infrastructure. Its full production cycle reduces waste while supplying materials for new products. The facility's economic and environmental impact will unfold over the coming decade.
