Russia's Superjet 100 Cleared for Mass Production After Rigorous Testing
Russia’s Superjet 100 aircraft has been declared ready for mass production after completing rigorous testing. The first production model has passed factory checks, while officials confirm the plane is now certified for commercial flights. The Superjet 100 programme reached a key milestone when Anton Alikhanov, head of Russia’s Ministry of Industry and Trade, announced its readiness for serial production. Factory tests on the initial production unit have wrapped up, clearing the way for wider manufacturing.
Meanwhile, Rostec Corporation has been putting the PD-8 engine through demanding trials. The homegrown powerplant proved its durability, even withstanding severe conditions like hailstorms. This engine will replace foreign-made alternatives in the Superjet fleet.
Assembly is already underway for 26 of the 42 contracted aircraft. The next major step is type certification, which is expected by August 2026. With certification secured for commercial operations, the Superjet 100 is set to enter service soon. The PD-8 engine’s successful testing ensures the aircraft can operate reliably in harsh environments. Production will now scale up to meet existing orders.
