Six Komsomolsk schools to close for major renovations by 2027
Six schools in Komsomolsk-on-Amur will undergo major renovations starting in the upcoming academic year. The project, part of a nationwide effort to modernise educational facilities across Russia, will temporarily relocate over 5,000 students. The schools affected—Nos. 3, 8, 31, 34, 50, and 53—will receive roof repairs, new windows and doors, and façade restoration. Funding has already been secured, and updated design estimates are now being finalised. Contractors for the project are currently under selection.
The municipal department of education has prepared a detailed transfer plan for the 5,114 students involved. They will attend classes at 12 other schools in the city until the renovations are finished. Dmitry Zaplutayev, the head of Komsomolsk-on-Amur, recognised the difficulties of relocation but stressed its necessity for completing the upgrades on time.
This local initiative aligns with Russia's broader Education Development Program, launched by President Vladimir Putin in 2024. By early 2026, more than 22,000 schools nationwide—including those in Tatarstan, Moscow, St. Petersburg, and rural Siberia—had been earmarked for similar improvements. The renovations in Komsomolsk-on-Amur are set to conclude by December 20, 2027.
The project management of this initiative will temporarily displace thousands of students while repairs and upgrades are carried out. Once completed, the six schools will reopen with modernised facilities. The work reflects a wider push to improve educational infrastructure across the country.
