Spotify's New Tool Lets Artists Block Unwanted AI-Generated Music
Spotify is testing a new tool called Artist Profile Protection to help musicians manage their online presence. The feature aims to stop incorrect or unwanted tracks from appearing under their names. It comes as AI-generated music increasingly causes confusion on streaming platforms.
The tool lets artists review and approve releases before they go live on their profiles. Once activated, they will receive email alerts whenever music is submitted under their name. Only approved tracks will then appear on their page and count towards their streaming numbers.
Spotify has introduced this feature in response to growing issues with AI-generated songs ending up on the wrong artist pages. Open distribution has made it easier for mistakes—or deliberate misuse—to link tracks to the wrong musicians. The problem gained attention after Sony Music recently demanded the removal of over 135,000 AI-generated songs mimicking its artists. The beta version is now available to selected artists. Those included can turn on *Artist Profile Protection* in their Spotify for Artists settings. The feature is particularly useful for musicians who share names with others, face incorrect releases, or simply want tighter control over their profile.
The new system gives artists direct oversight of their Spotify profiles. By approving or rejecting submissions, they can ensure only accurate and authorised music appears under their name. This move follows wider industry concerns about AI-generated content affecting artists' reputations and earnings.
