Suzuki's e-Vitara stays long-range only in New Zealand for now

Suzuki New Zealand currently offers only the 61kWh all-wheel-drive version of its e-Vitara electric SUV. Across the Tasman, Australia has access to a smaller 49kWh model, but this variant remains unavailable in New Zealand for now. The company is monitoring customer interest before deciding on its introduction here. The 61kWh e-Vitara in New Zealand delivers a maximum range of 426 kilometres on a full charge. In contrast, the 49kWh version sold in Australia provides up to 344 kilometres. Australian pricing for the smaller-battery model is expected to start below AU$40,000 (around NZ$47,800), making it a more budget-friendly option.

Suzuki New Zealand has so far avoided offering shorter-range EVs due to local preferences for longer-distance capability. CEO Gary Collins has stated satisfaction with the current model lineup, despite rising fuel costs. He noted that New Zealand buyers historically favour EVs with greater range, shaping the brand's product strategy. While the company has not ruled out introducing the 49kWh variant, it would depend on clear demand from customers. Any potential addition would not happen immediately. Meanwhile, buyers face an approximate eight-month wait for new e-Vitara orders, including possible model updates.

For now, the 61kWh e-Vitara remains the sole electric option from Suzuki in New Zealand. The company continues to assess whether a smaller-battery, lower-cost model would succeed in the local market. Any decision will hinge on customer feedback and demand trends.
