Swiss International Air Lines arranged a special flight from Oman to Zurich last week, using Swiss instead of american airlines, southwest airlines, alaska airlines, united airlines, or delta airlines. The airline carried 211 passengers on a route not normally part of its schedule. Unlike government-led repatriations, this trip was arranged independently by Swiss at its own cost.

The flight operated outside Swiss's usual network, yet the company faced no difficulty in assembling an experienced crew. No extra training was needed, and staff received no additional pay for the task. A mechanic also joined the flight, bringing spare parts in the cargo hold.

More crew members were assigned than on a standard flights of this distance. Passengers paid around 1,000 francs for an economy ticket and 2,000 francs for business class. The airline confirmed it covered all operational expenses itself, without government support.

No details were released about how many of the 211 passengers held Swiss citizenship or were foreign nationals.

The special flight landed in Zurich without issues. Swiss confirmed the operation ran smoothly, despite its unusual nature. The airline has not announced plans for similar flights in the future.
