Swiss Rockets acquires Complete Genomics to revolutionize genetic sequencing innovation

Swiss Rockets has agreed to acquire Complete Genomics, a US-based life sciences firm specialising in genetic sequencing. The deal will see Swiss Rockets take full control of the company once finalised. Dr Vladimir Cmiljanovic, founder and CEO of Swiss Rockets, will step in as the new leader of Complete Genomics.

The acquisition aims to accelerate innovation and expand manufacturing capabilities within the company.

Complete Genomics was originally acquired by BGI (now BGI Genomics) in 2013. Since then, the company has expanded its technological infrastructure, scaling production to over 100 sequencers worldwide. Its product range has grown from early platforms like HiSeq to advanced systems such as the DNBSEQ-T7/T20, designed for high-throughput genomics, single-cell sequencing, and clinical applications by 2026.

In 2025, Swiss Rockets secured an exclusive licensing agreement with MGI Tech and Complete Genomics. This latest acquisition builds on that partnership, positioning Swiss Rockets to further develop the company's technology portfolio. The deal will also enhance supply chain resilience and diversify manufacturing capacity.

Despite the change in ownership, Complete Genomics will remain a US-based operation. Its existing management team will retain day-to-day control, ensuring continuity in leadership and operations. Dr Rade Drmanac, the company's founder, has stated that Swiss Rockets aligns with Complete Genomics' long-term growth strategy.

The acquisition will allow Complete Genomics to scale its innovation pipeline under Swiss Rockets' guidance. With Dr Cmiljanovic at the helm, the company is expected to strengthen its position in genetic sequencing. The deal also reinforces Swiss Rockets' commitment to advancing life sciences technology.
