Swiss SRG initiative faces financial imbalance ahead of March 2026 vote

Campaign funding reports reveal a substantial financial disparity between backers and opponents of the SRG initiative. Opponents have raised over twice the amount of money, with CHF 3.88 million declared compared to backers' CHF 1.89 million. Both sides are now preparing for the vote on 8 March 2026.

The IG SRG initiative, under the slogan '200 francs is enough', is the primary financial supporter of the backers' campaign, providing over three-quarters of their total funds. On the other side, the SP party and the association 'Souveräne Medien Schweiz' cover roughly half of the opponents' budget.

Funding priorities differ between the two groups. Opponents have allocated more resources to the climate fund initiative. Meanwhile, backers have directed a larger share of their money toward individual taxation proposals. No financial details have yet been released for the cash proposal.

The total spending figures for both sides ahead of the March vote remain undisclosed. This leaves some uncertainty about how the remaining funds will be used in the final weeks of the campaign.

With the vote approaching, opponents hold a significant financial advantage. Their CHF 3.88 million budget far exceeds backers' CHF 1.89 million. The outcome may depend on how effectively each side uses its remaining resources before 8 March 2026.
