The fire at Pavilion 1 of the Tabasco Fair led to a temporary shutdown of activities. On Friday, Dora María Park reopened its doors, one day after the tragedy. Governor Javier May Rodríguez confirmed that fair activities would continue, with adjustments for safety.
Financial support has already begun for the 243 vendors and business owners who lost their investments. The Secretariat of Finance is distributing payments to cover their losses. Additionally, the state government will provide at least 1 million pesos in compensation for each vendor who died in the fire. A memorial Mass took place at the park’s livestock pavilion, honouring those who lost their lives. Governor May Rodríguez, State Government Secretary José Ramiro López Obrador, and other cabinet members attended the service. For vendors still holding merchandise, alternative spaces in other pavilions are being arranged. However, strict rules will apply—no electrical appliances will be allowed in the new locations. The state is also offering accommodations, funeral arrangements, transportation, and psychological support to the families of the deceased. Katia Ornelas Gil, head of the Secretariat of Economic Development and Tourism, confirmed the compensation details. She reassured that each affected family would receive the promised financial aid without delay.
The Tabasco state government has taken steps to assist both the grieving families and the surviving vendors. Compensation payments have started, and alternative trading spaces are being prepared.
