The Sims 4 Introduces Paid Creator Marketplace with New Virtual Currency
Electronic Arts is launching a Creator Marketplace in The Sims 4, allowing players to buy and sell custom content using a new in-game currency. The feature arrives on PC and Mac on March 17, 2026, with console versions planned for later. Critics argue the system mirrors controversial practices seen in other games, where players spend real money on virtual items created by the community.
The marketplace will use a proprietary currency called Moola for all transactions. Players can purchase Moola in bundles, with prices ranging from $2.49 for 200 Moola to $49.99 for 5,500 Moola. Creators will retain 30% of each sale, setting their own prices and bundling options—though all content must follow EA's marketplace rules.
Not all in-game purchases will use Moola. Official expansions and kits will still require real money, keeping them separate from the Creator Marketplace. The system has already drawn comparisons to similar setups in other titles, where players criticised the monetisation of mods and custom content. Several creators, including MADLEN, TwistedCat, Caio, and Crypticsim, have been confirmed for the launch. However, EA has not disclosed how many independent creators will participate at launch or in the future. The marketplace's rollout begins on March 17, 2026, for PC and Mac, with Xbox and PlayStation versions arriving at an unspecified date.
The Creator Marketplace introduces a new way for Sims 4 players to access custom content while giving creators a share of profits. The use of Moola, alongside real-money purchases for official content, has sparked debate over pricing transparency and spending incentives. The feature's reception will likely depend on how players respond to the virtual currency system once it goes live.
