The Thuringian Research Prize has opened nominations for its 2024 awards. The competition recognises outstanding research across all academic fields, from humanities to engineering. This year's winners will be announced at a ceremony on October 27.

The prize has been running since 1995 and has honoured over 240 research projects to date. It offers a total of €50,000, split between two categories: Basic Research and Applied Research. Nominations for completed projects will be accepted until May 4.

Last year's winners included a team from Jena University Hospital for their breakthroughs in leukemia treatment. Another 2023 award went to researchers at the Max Planck Institute in Jena, who developed AI models to track global carbon and water cycles. Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences also received recognition for its work on regional circular economy initiatives.

The prize remains open to all disciplines, ensuring a broad range of innovative work is considered each year.

The Thuringian Research Prize continues to highlight cutting-edge work from across Thuringia. With nominations now open, researchers have until early May to submit their projects. The winners will be celebrated in late October with a share of the €50,000 prize fund.
