Twiva Secures Jobtech Alliance Funding to Boost African Social Commerce
Kenyan startup Twiva has secured funding from the Jobtech Alliance, an initiative led by Mercy Corps and BFA Global. The investment amount remains undisclosed, but the backing highlights Twiva's unique approach to social commerce and job creation in Africa. This marks only the third known African startup to receive direct support from the alliance, following earlier investments in Bumpa and Flowcart. Twiva connects small businesses and brands with micro and nano influencers, offering a platform that handles campaign management, performance tracking, and payments. The system also embeds financial services, helping creators and gig workers earn more reliably. According to the Jobtech Alliance, Twiva stood out for its ability to structure demand, ensuring repeat revenue and stable income for creators rather than one-off brand deals.
The platform addresses two pressing challenges in Africa: youth unemployment and the struggles of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). By enabling MSMEs to market and sell products through online gig workers, Twiva creates opportunities for both businesses and creators. The Jobtech Alliance has worked closely with Twiva for over six months, providing tailored venture support and engaging directly with creators on the platform. The alliance's mission is to foster an environment where entrepreneurs can build inclusive jobtech platforms across Africa. While its investments remain selective, Twiva joins just two other startups—Bumpa and Flowcart—in receiving direct financial backing from the initiative.
Twiva's funding from the Jobtech Alliance reinforces its role in reshaping how African creators and small businesses engage in digital commerce. The platform's focus on structured demand and performance-based earnings sets it apart in a sector often dominated by irregular gig work. With continued support, Twiva aims to expand its impact on youth employment and MSME growth in the region.
