Volochayevsk Days Festival Brings the Russian Civil War to Life in 2023

The Volochayevsk Days military-historical festival returns for its eighth year on 7 February 2023. This annual event commemorates the 104th anniversary of the Battle of Volochayevka, a pivotal clash in the Russian Civil War. Visitors will experience reenactments, interactive exhibits, and a chance to test their knowledge of history.

The festival's centrepiece will be a large-scale reenactment of the Battle of Volochayevka. Twelve military-history clubs from across Russia—including Primorsky Krai, Khabarovsk Krai, and even Moscow and St Petersburg—will take part. Spectators can explore displays of historical uniforms, weapon replicas, and hands-on workshops.

To keep guests warm, organisers will serve tea and traditional soldiers' porridge from a field kitchen. A special 'currency' system will also let visitors earn rewards by answering history questions.

Transport adjustments have been made for the event. An electric train from Volochayevka-1 to Khabarovsk will depart earlier than usual, at 3:15 p.m., to accommodate the expected 5,000 attendees.

The festival blends education and entertainment, offering a vivid look at a key moment in Russian history. With reenactments, food, and interactive activities, it draws both history enthusiasts and curious visitors. Around 5,000 people are set to attend this year's event.
