WhatsApp Web now supports encrypted voice and video calls in browsers

WhatsApp Web is rolling out voice and video calls directly in web browsers. The feature begins with one-to-one calls and includes end-to-end encryption by default. Users will soon gain the ability to share their screens during video chats.

The new update brings calls to WhatsApp's desktop version without extra setup. Encryption, powered by the Signal protocol, activates automatically for every conversation. No manual adjustments are needed.

Later, the service will expand with group calls, call links, and scheduled calls. These additions are currently in testing but will arrive in future updates.

Screen sharing is also being introduced, letting users display their entire screen in real time. This positions WhatsApp as a simple alternative to platforms like Zoom or Microsoft Teams. However, the feature shares everything visible on the screen, so users must be cautious with sensitive information.

The update makes WhatsApp Web a more complete communication tool. Voice and video calls now work seamlessly in browsers, with encryption built in. Future expansions will add group and scheduled call options, broadening its use for both personal and professional chats.
