WWE cuts Tonga Loa and JC Mateo in latest roster shake-up

WWE has released two members of the MFT stable, Tonga Loa and JC Mateo, as part of recent budget cuts. The departures leave the group with only three wrestlers—Solo Sikoa, Tama Tonga, and Talla Tonga. Meanwhile, other high-profile names have also exited the company in recent weeks. Tonga Loa joined WWE in early 2024, while JC Mateo—formerly known as Jeff Cobb in NJPW—signed with the promotion in May 2025. Both wrestlers were key figures in the MFT faction, led by Solo Sikoa. Their releases follow a wave of cost-cutting measures across the organisation.

Solo Sikoa acknowledged their departures in an Instagram post, paying tribute to their contributions. With their exit, the MFT stable now consists solely of Sikoa, Tama Tonga, and Talla Tonga. The releases come alongside other notable departures, including The New Day’s Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston. JC Mateo’s next move could see him return to NJPW or join AEW, where his prior experience as Jeff Cobb may open doors. Tonga Loa, meanwhile, may need to reinvent himself as a singles competitor outside WWE.

The budget-driven cuts have reshaped WWE’s roster, particularly within the MFT faction. Tonga Loa and JC Mateo now face new career paths, while the remaining members of the group continue under Solo Sikoa’s leadership. The wider wrestling landscape may see further shifts as released talent explores opportunities elsewhere.
