YMTC Unveils Its First PCIe 5.0 SSD for Next-Gen AI PCs
YMTC, a prominent Chinese manufacturer of NAND flash memory, has introduced its first PCIe 5.0 SSD under its own branding. The new YMTC PC550 SSD moves away from the company's consumer-focused Zhitai line, signaling a shift towards broader market applications. With high-speed performance and advanced memory technology, this drive is designed for use in next-generation devices.
The YMTC PC550 SSD features the company's latest X4-9070 memory chips, built on 3D TLC NAND with Xtacking 4.0 architecture. This design stacks 267 layers, enhancing density and efficiency. Instead of a dedicated DRAM cache, the drive uses Host Memory Buffer (HMB) technology to manage data transfers.
Performance figures for the 2 TB model reach up to 10,500 MB/s for reads and 10,000 MB/s for writes. The SSD comes in M.2 2280 and M.2 2242 form factors, with storage options of 512 GB, 1 TB, and 2 TB. Endurance ratings stand at 300 TB, 600 TB, and 1,200 TB Total Bytes Written (TBW) for each capacity, respectively.
YMTC has highlighted the PC550 as suitable for 'AI PCs', indicating its potential in high-demand computing tasks. The drive's four-channel controller and TLC NAND help achieve its speed claims. However, no Western technology firms or OEMs have publicly adopted Chinese NAND solutions like YMTC's in the past year.
The YMTC PC550 SSD marks the company's first PCIe 5.0 offering outside its Zhitai brand. Its focus on OEM partnerships rather than direct consumer sales may shape its market presence. The drive's performance and endurance specs position it as a competitor in high-speed storage solutions.
