YouTube's new space documentary reveals the secrets of our solar system's moons
Two new science documentaries are coming to YouTube, created entirely from Getty Images’ vast footage collection. The first, Moons of our Solar System, will premiere on December 12th, 2025. Produced by Little Dot Studios, the films will explore space, origins, and the search for life beyond Earth.
The partnership marks the first YouTube Original programme made exclusively from Getty Images’ licensed content. Their archive holds over 34 million clips, with nearly 20 million in 4K resolution. The collection also includes BBC and NBC News footage, alongside creative and historical material.
*Moons of our Solar System* will run for 90 minutes and launch in English, German, and Spanish. It will examine the moons in our solar system, their formation, unusual traits, and whether they could host life. Alex Hryniewicz, Managing Director at Little Dot Studios, noted that the project turned data insights into high-quality programming. Paul Davis, Vice President at Getty Images, added that the collaboration highlights the depth of their content for compelling storytelling.
The documentary arrives on December 12th, 2025, as the first of two science films under this partnership. Viewers will see rare archival footage alongside modern visuals, all sourced from Getty Images. The project sets a new standard for YouTube Originals built entirely from licensed content.
